ST KILDA has snared one of the top mature age recruits in Claremont’s Tom Lee with its first selection in this year’s draft.
The Saints departed with pick 12 in exchange for Lee and picks 24 and 43 from Greater Western Sydney.
Lee is considered to be among the top 10 state league draft prospects. The 21-year-old trained with Fremantle last pre-season but he put his name up in lights this year after kicking six goals in a best on ground performance in the Foxtel Cup.
The Saints wanted to snare Lee before anyone else given that he was certain to go at least as a rookie this year.
He will bolster the forward line along with last year’s mature age recruits Beau Wilkes, Ahmed Saad and Terry Milera. The Saints have taken a real shine to mature age recruits from state leagues and have had plenty of success with them last season.
